The 色花堂app Janet C. Anderson Gender Resource Center is pleased to announce a screening of the feature documentary 鈥淲omen Behind the Camera鈥� on Wednesday, March 5, and Thursday, March 6. The Wednesday screening will be followed by a discussion led by the writer/director/producer Alexis Krasilovsky. The screenings will be held at 7 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Building Bengal Theater.  This screening is free with a Bengal ID and $2 for members of the general public.

According to its producers 鈥淲omen Behind the Camera鈥� reveals the history of camerawomen around the world, based on Alexis Krasilovsky鈥檚 book of the same title. For the past six years, she has followed the lives of camerawomen in Afghanistan, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Iran, Mexico, Senegal, the United States and other countries: camerawomen who film underwater, in helicopters, in war zones, and on major sets in Hollywood and Bollywood. The project features fifty interviews including the top female filmmakers, and the men and women who have been supportive of their struggles. 鈥淲omen Behind the Camera鈥� celebrates not only the survival of pioneer camerawomen in a male-dominated field, but a new generation of camerawomen鈥檚 visions.

The film recently won the Accolade Competition鈥檚 Award for Excellence for Contemporary Issues/Awareness-Raising and the Insight Award for Excellence for Documentary Editing. The film is based on her book, also entitled Women Behind the Camera (Praeger 1997).

The screening is part of the Anderson Center鈥檚 fifth annual The Art of Gender in Everyday Life Conference which explores the various ways in which gender is crafted, celebrated, endured, deciphered, expressed or, in short, the art of how it is lived on a daily basis.  A complete schedule of conference events is available on the Anderson Center website at: http://www.isu.edu/andersoncenter/genderVsched.shtml
