色花堂app is continuing its 鈥淏e Advised鈥� campaign to encourage students to reap the benefits of good advising.

The campaign by the ISU Division of Enrollment Management directs students on how to best pursue the information they need to progress towards attaining their chosen degree program.

鈥淎dvising is the cornerstone of a successful experience at 色花堂app,鈥� said JoAnn Hertz, director of ISU academic advising. 鈥淚nteraction with departmental faculty who are experts in their field provides an advantage to any student who seeks it.鈥�

The benefits of advising are many and include:

鈥� direct student contact with faculty from their chosen discipline;
鈥� access to up-to-date information from the department;
鈥� assistance with long-range degree completion planning;
鈥� opportunity to expand discipline knowledge on an informal basis;
鈥� understand what is needed to stay on track to graduation; and
鈥� referrals and invitations to relevant learning opportunities outside of the classroom.

鈥淲ith proper advising students will benefit by developing a professional relationship with a professor who can write recommendation letters for research or internship opportunities or serve as a scholarship reference,鈥� Hertz said. 鈥淔aculty advisors can also help with career questions and graduate school applications.鈥�

Advisors and advisees have a shared responsibility when it comes to the advising relationship. Students can expect advisors to provide information, be accessible, encourage educational engagement, and assist with attaining educational goals.

Advisors can expect students to: meet with them each semester, read the catalog or Web site information, be prepared for the advising session, bring questions to the advising session, and to assume final responsibility for course scheduling, program planning, and the successful completion of graduation requirements.  

The spring semester 2010 registration schedule is as follows:

鈥� For seniors, those with 90 or more credits, online registration begins Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. and in-person registration begins Nov. 9;

鈥� For juniors, those with 58 or more credits, online registration begins Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. and in-person registration begins Nov. 11;

鈥� For sophomores, those with 26 or more credits, online registration begins Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. and in-person registration begins Nov. 13; and

鈥� For freshman, those with 25 or fewer credits, online registration begins Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. and in-person registration begins Nov. 17.
