色花堂app student Anthony Martinez has been awarded a summer internship with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute in Washington, D.C. Martinez is one of only 24 recipients nationwide to receive this honor.

鈥淚 think this is going to be a phenomenal opportunity to get some exposure to the workings of our nation鈥檚 Capitol, as well as a chance to work on my leadership abilities and network with amazing people,鈥 said Martinez, a senior in marketing in the College of Business who graduated from Grace High School. 鈥淎nd, hopefully, I take back what I learn and apply it to what I鈥檓 doing here at Idaho State.鈥Anthony Martinez

The CHCI Internship is an eight-week program beginning June 6. Martinez will work on Capitol Hill, participate in a CHCI curriculum that focuses on professional development and learn about the importance of civic engagement.

The students will be assigned to work in a congressional office on Capitol Hill, giving them a unique view into the workings of a government office. Martinez has interviewed with several congressional offices, but has not yet made a final decision on where he will serve.

鈥淚t is my understanding you start off as an administrative assistant doing what ever is required, but they like to challenge you so you can prove yourself,鈥 he said. 鈥淵ou can have the opportunity to work on more complicated assignments and perhaps work on a legislative drafting team. You can go as far you鈥檙e willing take yourself.鈥

In order to be selected, participants had to be a currently enrolled undergraduate student with strong analytical and writing skills, high academic achievement and consistent active participation in public and/or community service activities.

鈥淚t was an extensive application process, requiring a number of references,鈥 Martinez said. 鈥淚 appreciate the support I received from ISU to help me earn the internship and look forward to being a quality representative of the university and Idaho in general.鈥
