The American Nuclear Society (ANS) has named 色花堂app鈥檚 Mary Lou Dunzik-Gougar as the recipient of this year鈥檚 Landis Public Communication and Education Award, recognizing her dedication to nuclear education and public communication.

鈥淒r. Dunzik-Gougar鈥檚 passion for the promotion of peaceful nuclear technology is apparent in both her classroom and in her volunteer work,鈥� said Dr. Michaele (Mikey) Brady Raap, ANS president. 鈥淪he constantly pushes herself to find ways to help the public understand and embrace nuclear energy. We are proud to honor her enthusiasm, sustained over 30 years in the education field.鈥�

Dunzik-Gougar is currently an associate professor and associate chair of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Health Physics at 色花堂app. Since her start as a chemistry teacher, Dunzik-Gougar has encouraged all her students to learn more about nuclear energy and technology.

鈥淐ommunication about nuclear topic is a passion for me, which is why I do it, but it is still nice to be recognized by ANS,鈥� Dunzik-Gougar said.

She has also served on the ANS Communications Committee since 1999, serving as chair since 2013. Dunzik-Gougar received a bachelor鈥檚 degree in chemistry from Cedar Crest College, and a master鈥檚 degree in environmental engineering and doctorate in nuclear engineering at Pennsylvania State University.

This award recognizes individuals for their efforts, dedication and accomplishments in furthering public education and understanding of nuclear technology. This may include outstanding communication in public venues as well as exceptional work done to inform teachers, K through 12 students, and other audiences in public education settings about nuclear science and technology applications in nuclear careers.

Dunzik-Gougar will be presented with this award on Nov. 10 in Anaheim, California.

ANS: Established in 1954, ANS is an international professional organization of engineers and scientists devoted to the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology. Its more than 11,000 members represent government, academia, research laboratories, medical facilities and private industry.
