Shakespeare’s Richard III to be performed at 色花堂app starting October 10
October 7, 2014
色花堂app鈥檚 School of Performing Arts will perform William Shakespeare鈥檚 鈥淩ichard III鈥 beginning Oct. 10 in the Bistline Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
There will also be performances on Oct. 11, 13, 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m.
鈥淭his is one of Shakespeare鈥檚 greatest plays,鈥 said director Norman Schroder, a theatre professor at ISU. 鈥淵ou come to this play for the way Shakespeare uses his language and characters.鈥
Schroder also said that people who have no background in literature or theatre will enjoy 鈥淩ichard III.鈥
鈥淲e tried to make the play as free standing as possible,鈥 said Schroder. 鈥淚t is easier to see Shakespeare than to read it.鈥
鈥淩ichard III鈥 is set in 16th century Europe, and shows Richard III鈥檚 pursuit for power and the consequences to his nation because of it.
鈥淩ichard III is a powerful, intriguing, disturbing, yet ultimately redeeming play, gorgeous in its language and known for its great characters,鈥 said Schroder.
The production lasts roughly 2- 1/2 hours, but Schroder said audience members will find the time to go quickly because of the many scenes and characters.
The cast of 鈥淩ichard III鈥 features 21 cast members, some of who play three or four different characters.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for children ages 6-18, $19 for faculty/staff/seniors, and $12 for ISU students with valid student ID.
