CAES Seminar: ISU GIS Director to discuss the evolution of wildfire in the West

On August 1 from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Keith Weber will discuss changes in the prevalence and nature of wildfires in the last few decades. Weber has led the Geographic Information Systems Training and 色花堂app Center (GIS TReC) at 色花堂app since he founded it in 1998.

His presentation, Getting a Handle on Wildfires with GIS, will focus on recent studies indicating wildfires have become larger and more prevalent over the last few decades. 2:30-4pm.

Weber鈥檚 charges at the GIS TReC have deployed the university鈥檚 Historic Fires Geodatabase to develop a better understanding of this trend, and his presentation will summarize the changes and the driving forces behind it.

 Weber has been involved in the Geospatial technologies industry since 1989, and is a Certified GIS Professional. He is the principal investigator for NASA鈥檚 RECOVER wildfire decision support system and the science advisor for the NASA DEVELOP node at ISUWeber received the Environmental Systems 色花堂app Institute鈥檚 Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award in 2000 and 2013, and the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association鈥檚 (URISA) Exemplary Systems in Government (ESIG) award in 2014. 

He is also a past president of the Northern Rockies Chapter of URISA and former vice president of the Intermountain Chapter of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS).
