English Alumnus wins National Prize

Colton Moon, B.A. in English (2019), recently had his nonfiction essay, "The Latter-Day Sinner" awarded runner-up for a national prize competition, the 2019 Norton Writers Prize - Nonfiction. Judges noted that Colton Moon鈥檚 essay 鈥渟hows how the courage of the writer鈥檚 convictions triumphs over powerful societal and religious constraints, resulting in hopeful resolve鈥攁s well as uncompromising repudiation.鈥 Mr. Moon originally wrote the essay in the English Department's 2018 upper-division course Genre Studies in Nonfiction, taught by Hal Hellwig, Professor of English. Bestowed by the nationally recognized publisher W.W. Norton, the Norton Writers Prize recognizes outstanding original nonfiction by undergraduates.
