Sept. 3 CAES Codebreaker seminar to focus on new approach to safety at INL

A University of Idaho graduate who has been instrumental in implementing a new approach to safety at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is the presenter at the monthly CAES Codebreaker seminar at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 3.
Duke Henningsen is the Human Performance Improvement (HPI) Lead Practitioner for the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) as well as a Performance Analyst for INL who recently received his Master鈥檚 degree in Technology Management from the University of Idaho. His presentation, 鈥淗uman Performance Improvement Rejuvenation at Idaho National Laboratory鈥�, focuses on the Human Performance Improvement (HPI) initiative that has proven successful globally and is now being implemented at INL.
HPI is not a program but rather a set of concepts or principles that puts a new perspective on human error and outlines a strategic approach for improving performance by reducing human error. Its objective is to curtail unwanted events and to mitigate their impact when they occur. Henningsen will discuss the origins and fundamentals of HPI and how it will help INL and its employees.
Henningsen, who received his Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Industrial Technology through the University of Idaho鈥檚 School of Engineering, has been at INL since 2009, initially as a drafter for the Specific Manufacturing Capability. He transferred to the Materials and Fuels Complex in 2011 to work as a drafter and moved in 2014 to ATR, where he has performed many roles, including Cause Analyst, Lessons Learned Coordinator, Compliance Officer, and Lead HPI Practitioner.
