How to Avoid "Zoom Bombers"

April 1, 2020

Faculty,

Zoom bombing is when an uninvited attendee joins your meeting in an attempt to cause disruption. Below are some basic tips to avoid a Zoom bomber.

  • To make Zoom meetings secure, create your scheduled Zoom meeting inside of Moodle ISU. Only students in the course can access the meeting, unless you share the meeting link with individuals outside of Moodle ISU.

For meetings not utilizing Moodle ISU, you can require a meeting password when scheduling a meeting so only participants with the meeting link and password can join.

  • Enable the Waiting room feature so that the host and co-host of the meeting can monitor who is allowed to join a meeting. is a video on how to enable this feature.
  • In the event that you do have someone that you need to remove from a meeting, open the 鈥淢anage Participants鈥 Tab, hover over the participants鈥 name and select 鈥淢ore.鈥 From there you can select 鈥凌别尘辞惫别.鈥

In your account settings, verify that your profile settings () that 鈥淎llow removed participants to rejoin鈥 is toggled Off. Note that participants that you remove during the current session will be able to rejoin a future session.

  • As a host you can 鈥淟ock meeting鈥 once all of your participants are in. In the 鈥淧articipants鈥 tab you will see a 鈥淢ore鈥 option. From there select 鈥淟ock Meeting鈥. This will block any unwanted participants.
