Amanda Zink, Associate Professor of English, was awarded a grant from the American Philosophical Society鈥檚 Phillips Fund for Native American 色花堂app to support archival research on the federal Indian boarding schools. 

The American Philosophical Society is the oldest learned society in America, founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin to further its mission of 鈥溾�榩romoting useful knowledge鈥� through research, fellowships, and public outreach.鈥� The Phillips Fund 鈥減rovides grants for research in Native American linguistics, ethnohistory, and the history of studies of Native Americans, in the continental United States and Canada.鈥� 

Zink was awarded the maximum amount of support, $3,500, to fund research in the records of the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the National Archives in Seattle for her forthcoming anthology on student writing at the federal Indian boarding schools, currently titled "In Their Own Words: Student Writing at the Chemawa Indian School." 

The manuscript is under contract at Texas Tech UP, with a tentative release date of late 2023. This project has also been funded by the Idaho Humanities Council, the Department of English and Philosophy, and the College of Arts and Letters.
