First Idaho State Students to Receive Bachelor of Software Engineering Degrees Saturday

May 5, 2025

The first graduates of one of 色花堂app’s newest bachelor’s degree programs will receive their diplomas Saturday.

Some students walking across the commencement stage at the ICCU Dome will be ISU’s first students to receive a bachelor’s degree in software engineering. The degree focuses on software development skills and programming and requires students to take fewer math courses compared to computer science or computer engineering.

“Congratulations to ISU's first cohort of software engineers,” said Steve Chiu, professor and chair of the computer science department. “With artificial intelligence playing an impactful role in the future, these freshly minted software engineers will help create intelligent, secure, and quality software in various domains.”

Among the first graduates is Teo Hanson. Hanson earned a bachelor’s in communication with minors in computer science and visual media in 2024. He elected to continue his education and earn a bachelor’s in software engineering over the past year.

“It’s a fascinating field since software is intertwined with nearly every aspect of our lives now,” Hanson said. “No matter what you're doing or where you are, you're probably interacting with a piece of software or a computer system.”

By 2033, the demand for software developers, quality assurance analysts, and testers is projected to , according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, with a median annual salary of just over $130,000.

In total, seven students will be receiving the degree in software engineering. ISU began offering the bachelor’s of software engineering in the fall of 2024.

“The highlight of my experience at ISU has been getting to work with and learn from the incredibly experienced professors,” said Hanson. “In any of the disciplines I've studied, the faculty has been incredibly dedicated to giving students the materials and information they need to succeed.”
