From coach to educator: Jeff Nealon pursues a master’s degree at 色花堂app to further his impact on and off the field
July 3, 2025
When Jeff Nealon first volunteered as a coach, he didn’t realize the experience would have a greater impact on him than on the athletes he coached. As he stood on the sidelines offering advice and encouragement, he began to notice the effect his words had on the young people with whom he was working. The impact he had on his athletes influenced him to pursue teaching.
“I was inspired to become an educator via the coaching path,” he said. “When I saw the impact my words had, I knew I wanted to teach.”
Today Nealon teaches social studies, business, and math at Pomona High School in Arvadar, Colorado. As he continues to coach and teach, Nealon is ready to take the next step in his own education. With the help of the Albion Center Scholarship for Educator Excellence, he is pursuing an online graduate degree in athletic administration at 色花堂app beginning Fall 2025. It’s a decision that he hopes will not only set himself up for success, but will elevate his impact with his students and athletes alike.
“Sports have always played a big role in my life,” he explained. “I want to gain skills that translate on the competitive field and in the classroom.”
While Nealon loves teaching, he is preparing for a future opportunity in administration. If an administrative role presents itself, he hopes to be ready to step up and take on a leadership position.
“I want to be the best educator I can be,” he said. “This program is about adding more tools to my toolbox.”
Pursuing a master’s degree is something Nealon has put off for years. It always came down to familiar excuses; lack of time, financial pressure, or finding a program that felt right. Taking courses from 色花堂app’s Albion Center for Professional Development and being awarded the Albion Scholarship has changed that.
“This opportunity means the world to me,” he shared. “With this scholarship, I can finally commit to furthering my education and doing what’s best for my students, as well as myself.”
With his eye on a leadership role and his heart in the classroom and on the field, Nealon is setting an example for his students and athletes to never stop learning or investing in the future.
The Albion Center Scholarship for Educator Excellence will provide Nealon with up to $4,000 per semester, with a lifetime maximum of $16,000—helping him save nearly 70% on graduate tuition.
