With colder winter temperatures, we remind everyone about the safe and proper use of space heaters on campus.

• When selecting space heaters, they must be UL Listed, have tip-over protection, and should always be plugged directly into a dedicated wall outlet to prevent potential fire hazards.
• Avoid using power strips or extension cords, as they can overheat, cause fires and potentially create tripping hazards.
• Space heaters should be placed on low, flat surfaces, away from high-traffic areas or doorways. Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from flammable materials.
• Space heaters draw significant amperage and may trip breakers, disrupting electrical service. Always unplug space heaters and other devices when not in use, especially at the end of the day, before the weekend and holidays.
