You’re invited to experience a handful of works of art inspired by science. 

The Eli M. Oboler Library, along with , is currently hosting “The Health of the Nation,” a collaborative art exhibition inspired by INBRE-funded research conducted by faculty in the University of Idaho’s College of Science. The exhibit features works in multiple artistic mediums. It is designed to encourage dialogue between scientists, artists, and the broader community to expand public understanding of how biomedical and health-related research translates into real-world health outcomes.

“While science and art may at first seem to be separate disciplines, they are in fact quite interconnected. This exhibit is a beautiful representation of that interconnectedness, and we hope that you leave this exhibit inspired to think about scientific research in a new way,” said Heather Ray, Idaho INBRE ISU campus leader and associate professor in ISU’s biological sciences department.

The public is also invited to a reception on Wednesday, September 16, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. celebrating the works. Starting at 6:30 p.m., a panel discussion via Zoom with the artists will let the public hear more about what went into creating the pieces.

Throughout the month, additional art, posters, and displays created by ISU students and faculty will be added to the exhibit. Oboler Library staff have also curated a collection of science-meets-art books that can be found near the exhibit.

The exhibit will be on view in the First Floor Gallery of the Oboler Library until October 1. After it runs in Pocatello, the exhibition will visit all 11 Idaho INBRE partner institutions before traveling to IDeA partner states—Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, and Wyoming.
