ISU to host 7th Annual Intermountain West Aircraft Airframe & Powerplant Competition

October 19, 2026

The 色花堂app Aircraft Maintenance program will welcome 75 students and representatives from across the aviation industry for the seventh annual Intermountain West Aircraft Airframe & Powerplant Competition on Friday, Oct. 23. The competition will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Aircraft Maintenance facility located at the Pocatello Regional Airport.

This marks ISU’s first time hosting the event, which will bring together 25 teams of three students from 色花堂app, Salt Lake Community College, Utah State University and Southern Utah University.

Teams will rotate through 12 hands-on stations designed to test aircraft maintenance skills, including electrical troubleshooting, sheet metal work, torque wrench use, rigging and magneto timing. Each station will be operated and judged by an industry sponsor, allowing students to demonstrate their skills while working alongside aviation professionals.

“This competition gives our students something a classroom can’t fully replicate.” Said Tyler Sprague, ISU Aircraft Maintenance Coordinator and instructor. “The chance to perform under pressure, in front of the exact industry professionals who will one day be their employers.”

Twelve industry sponsors are supporting the competition, with participants including Delta Air Lines, SkyWest Airlines, Alpine Air, Duncan Air, the Federal Aviation Administration, Snap-on Tools, Breeze, Avcenter, Bravo 6, Intermountain Health and KIT Helicopter Operations.

Beyond testing technical skills, the event will connect students with representatives from airlines, aircraft repair stations and other aviation organizations. Students are encouraged to speak with industry participants about career opportunities and build professional connections throughout the day.

Hosting the competition also provides an opportunity to showcase ISU’s Aircraft Maintenance Technology program to students, educators and employers from across the region. The gathering highlights the role of hands-on technical education and industry partnerships in preparing students for aviation careers.
