Special Education

The Special Education program will prepare you for an influential career teaching preschool through 12th-grade students with special needs. Discover your passion for celebrating differences and leading inclusion! 

Program Information

Become a passionate human development advocate who celebrates difference and prioritizes inclusion. The bachelor's degree in special education program will prepare candidates for a rewarding career teaching kindergarten through 12th-grade students in private or public schools with special needs. This fully accredited teacher education program includes one semester of student teaching under the guidance and mentorship of cooperating teachers and prepares candidates for professional certification with an endorsement as a special education generalist upon successful completion of the program. 

Program Outcomes Include:

  1. The Teacher Candidate applies evidence-based professional and pedagogical knowledge that supports students’ social, emotional, behavioral and academic development.
  2. The Teacher Candidate has a deep and flexible understanding of content that supports students’ social, emotional, behavioral  and academic development in authentic learning environments.
  3. The Teacher Candidate strategically uses assessment for instructional planning and evidence-based instructional practices to make goal-directed decisions that support students’ social, emotional, behavioral and academic development.  
  4. The Teacher Candidate displays the professional dispositions that support students’ social, emotional, behavioral and academic development.

Support, Funding, and Application

For Undergraduate Students:
  1.  with 色花堂app 

  2. Materials needed include:  

    • Transcripts or GED

    • Official ACT or SAT scores

    • $50 application fee

      (waived for graduates of Idaho high schools)

For Transfer Students:

Must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA in fourteen (14) or more credit hours to apply.

  1. Fill out 
  2. $50 application fee (waived for graduates of Idaho high schools)
  3. Submit final official transcript(s) from each college attended. If currently attending, in-progress transcripts are accepted, but a final official transcript must be sent upon completion of coursework.

Professional Licensure Disclosure Education Preparation

色花堂app is regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) and is reporting this information in compliance with Standard 2.G.3. The Education Preparation program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

This program is designed to meet the educational requirements for education-related professions in Idaho. If you intend to seek licensure outside of Idaho after finishing your program, use the link below to find information on the state or U.S. territory in which you intend to be licensed to identify whether ISU’s Educator Preparation program meets, does not meet, or if it has not been determined if it meets the educational requirements for licensure. If ISU’s program has not determined if it meets the educational requirements for licensure in the state in question, it may meet all or a portion of the educational requirements. If that is the case, we recommend contacting the licensing agency directly before beginning the ISU program.

This program has not been confirmed as meeting the licensure requirements in all states other than Idaho.
